Happy Sunday, Peaches! I hope you all had a great week. I'm drinking some bullet proof coffee and on my 6th episode of Fixer Upper. I think I'm in love with this show. I also have been watching Brooklyn Nine Nine before bed and it has some great LOL moments. I love shows like that. Yesterday I went to the Wichita Bridal fair with two of my friends, Sarah and Ginny. Ginny is actually my wedding coordinator. She's organized, crafty, and just all around great and everything so she was a perfect fit. Myself and Kevin tend to be super laid back so I'm happy to have someone who is more take charge to be on our planning team. And Sarah was there for moral support because I just love her and that's also important.
I had picked out like 3 fun skirts and outfits but then winter decided to come to Kansas and 20 degree weather + wind meant I had to be more practical. None of us wanted to carry around a jacket so we tried to be warm in other ways. It was perfect when walking around the expo but I'll admit we were cursing our choices walking from the parking lot to the expo. I don't really get dressed up for work anymore so this was an excuse to curl my hair and put on some lipstick. It was great!
Just to give you an idea, this is the venue we've reserved for the wedding. It's a round barn with these lights hanging from the ceiling. There are tables around the barn and a bar in this part of it. Connected to this is a little mess hall/bathrooms and there's also a lot of land around to have the ceremony outside and people/kids to hang out outside during the reception.
It is definitely the year of sequins. If I could find a dress/outfit for my bridesmaids that was flattering for all different body types then I would be so on it. These sequin tablecloths were all over and I had some serious heart eyes. This stuff pictured as well as the LOVE letters are for rent at a huge warehouse in a small town over. They're doing an open house in the next couple of weeks and I'm thinking about going to look just to get an idea on the price to see if anything is worth it. Our venue pretty much already gave us this rustic feel so we're running with that plus touches of fall. Our colors are going to be dark purple and burgundy with fall accents. I'm pretty excited about it.
Although I already have a venue, the local wildlife park was a favorite booth for us. They had a baby kangaroo, a parrot (okay birds scare me so I could take or leave this guy) and a baby penguin!! The penguin apparently can walk with you or before you down the aisle so he was at the expo walking around and melting hearts!
We got to sample desserts from basically every local bakery in town. I had some favorites for sure. One bakery had these small cakes on display and I'm really in love with that idea. Possible different flavors for each with different designs that go together. And since I'm a dessert lover and I kinda want a bit of everything I was thinking that with the small cakes there could also be cookie and cupcake options that go with the cakes. A company had a smores bar there which I loved and we figured out we could probably make this set up pretty cheap compared to the cost of renting it. That's one thing I for sure know will be at the reception!
The other big thing I mentioned being interested in were the photobooths. Photobooths seem to be one of the best way to capture pictures of your guests and lets be real, I'm obsessed with them. The one at Kim's wedding was so fun, I really hope to have one at mine. We tried out a few and I registered to win a free one. Although price will be a big factor in determining which one I pick, I got a feel for which ones also seem better quality that I couldn't have found out from just browsing online.
It was a pretty busy day but I do feel like it was worth it because I got some more ideas. Since I'm not from this area originally it was so cool to see all these different vendors that are local. Other vendors I enjoyed but aren't pictured: custom t shirt shop (I HAVE to get my bridal party some shirts), a flavored cotton candy company, a frozen drink machine, well and every other food vendor you could think of.
Things for the wedding I need to tackle now that I've been to the expo: making a list of decor I want to make/buy/rent, try to pick which bakery we want to work with, find bridesmaid outfits, choosing a caterer, decide if and where we want to honeymoon.
It's getting more real by the day. I'm so very excited about it and the excitement my friends all express too is so wonderful. We've got one supportive team in our corner.
Thanks again to Ginny and Sarah for going with me. It was a fun wedding inspired day!
Life's a Peach,
Tori
