Tori's 2015 Recap

Sometimes you really don't realize everything that happens in a year until you take a moment to look back. I was reading over Leann's post and thinking wow she had a big year, did I? And then I remembered the minor detail that I got engaged this year!

When 2015 started I was still pretty new to Kansas.  It had only been two months. I was trying to figure out how to keep warm when going outside in the winter...and driving on snowy/icy days was terrifying. Okay, that still scares me but I'm happy to say that as of right now, Kansas feels like home.  My year started pretty great with discovering the BEST local coffee shop, my birthday, my family coming up to Kansas, and one my friend's here having a baby.

Side note: for those of  you who don't know, Kevin and I met on tumblr. We both had blogs centered around our fitness journeys and connected that way. I also befriend a few other girls who happened to already live in Kansas so when I moved I had two friends here which has been amazing. I have grown close with them over the year and I can't imagine loving Kansas as much without them here!

Okay back to 2015:

In March, I also found a new hair salon and chopped my hair off!

It was a big change and it forced me (along with Kansas water) to start curling my hair every day. I'm letting my hair grow out now just for winter and because I miss having a pony tail when I work out but I love looking back at my hair like this that I can't say it won't return again in the spring.

In March I also got to go to Texas for Finley's first birthday party! It was Mickey themed and I am super obsessed with that nephew of mine so I loved being there. Looking back I got to travel to a lot more places than expected! I saw my parents 5 times this year which I think is a record for living in two separate states. Being closer to my parents and my two baby sisters has been a major plus of relocating to the Midwest.

Kevin and I took a trip to Kansas City to see my favorite band in the whole wide world! We went and saw the Tour De Compadres which was not only Needtobreathe but Drew Holcomb, Ben Rector and Colony House. It was a surreal feeling to see my favorite band in a different state but it was one of my favorite weekends of the year. Oh and we got to IKEA soooooooo it was totally worth the drive.

Memorial Day weekend I got to go BACK to Texas for a short visit and Kim came along too. Oh and not  to mention our youngest sister had her baby so I got to meet a new nephew! It was a short but super fun trip and honestly spending time with family always fills up my tank.
Keeping in this traveling trend, in June two of my very good friends flew me into North Carolina to surprise my best friend Lexie for her birthday! It was an epic surprise and such a fun time.

When I got back was pretty much the *big* moment of the year and I got engaged! I actually kept it secret for a few weeks and only Kevin and I knew while my ring was getting resized. Since I had this secret, I decided to go ahead and plan a fun way to announce it. I had an old friend from college make the mug  and once the ring got back, we told the world. I'm very excited about marrying Kevin. Every once and a while the thought of a wedding makes me want to run and hide but also knowing that my favorite people on the planet will all be together on the same day is part of the motivation for it. And let me add Kevin is wonderful and I love him a lot so I'm pumped about marrying that dude.

We had yet another epic 4th of July celebration with Kevin's family here in Kansas this year. He and his brother order tons of fireworks and set them off for hours. It's the coolest thing to get to sit in your front yard and watch fireworks.

At the end of July I took my first long vacation and spent a week in Georgia! I started my weekend in Atlanta to meet my best friend's baby and then spent the rest of the time back home with my sister and friends. It was hot, I ate a lot of Zaxbys, and it was the best.

Summer ended and then my favorite season arrived: FALL! Shout out to Mother Nature for basically letting us having spring/fall temperatures until just recently. Fall in the Midwest is pretty great. Cooler temperatures, trees changing colors, and pumpkin patches! Those are every where but I got to go to my first one this year. Before that though on Labor Day weekend Kevin got to join me for another weekend trip to Texas. He tried  Torchy's tacos for the first time and he's been in love ever since. If you ever go to Texas...find a Torchy's!

I hosted my first party this year! I have been doing Zumba pretty much since I moved here. My sweet friend, Sarah, is an instructor so I went with her and to her classes. I wasn't expecting to fall in love with it but I did and made some other great friends from Zumba too. I hosted the 2nd annual pumpkin painting party. I decorated, bought souvenirs for my guests and even made homemade butter beer! It was such a blast. Life gets busy for sure but it was nice to stop and spend time with the girls and eat lots of good food while we painted some pumpkins.

In November Kev and I booked our wedding venue! It is the most adorable thing and I'm super excited about it. We stayed in Kansas for Thanksgiving and spent it with his family because a few weeks later, as you all know, our older sister got married so that was another trip back to Georgia!

Christmas was spent in Kansas but my parent's came up for a few days so that was a lovely treat.

Looking back, I couldn't be happier with how 2015 went. I got to travel a lot, see my best friends, spend lots of time with my family. I made strong friendships here in Kansas and I learned A LOT about myself that could be at least 2 more blog posts to be honest. Of course the year wasn't perfect but I'm choosing to move onto this one remembering the best parts.

2016 is a pretty big year. I'm getting married in just 9 months. How crazy is that?! I'm doing my best not to panic just yet but it'll be here before I know. There's a lot of months and a lot of memories to make before October though. I'm excited about the new year and all that brings.
